Description
A true zero-order wave plate is a single birefringent plate thin enough that its retardance is exactly the design value, such as λ/4 or λ/2, with no extra whole waves. A plate that thin is fragile, so it is cemented to a glass substrate for support. True zero-order plates are the least sensitive to wavelength, temperature and angle of incidence, for stable, predictable polarization control.
