Description
A reflective neutral density filter carries a thin metallic coating that reflects part of the light and transmits the rest, reducing intensity evenly across a broad band without changing colour balance. The rejected light is reflected rather than absorbed, so tilt the filter slightly or block the reflection to keep it out of the system. Uses range from long photographic exposures to laser and laboratory set-ups.
