Description
A penta prism reflects light twice inside its five-sided body, turning the beam through 90°. The deviation depends only on the angle between the two reflecting faces, so the beam still turns by 90° if the prism tilts slightly in that plane. The image is neither inverted nor reversed. Penta prisms are used in cameras, surveying instruments and rangefinders.
