Convex-concave and thicker at the edge: a diverging lens that helps correct aberrations.

A negative meniscus lens has one convex and one concave surface and is thicker at the edge than at the centre. It diverges light. In a multi-element system it lengthens the focal length and helps correct aberrations. It is used in telescopes, cameras and microscopes.
