One flat face, one concave face: a negative lens that spreads light out.

A plano-concave lens has one flat and one inward-curved surface and a negative focal length. It makes a parallel beam diverge as if it came from a point on the input side of the lens. Uses include beam expansion, light projection, laser optics and lengthening the focal length of an existing system.
